Apple 3rd Quarter Sales Report

Apple has released its 3rd quarter sales report outlining the record sales of the Macs and iPods. Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO is all happy about the revenue growth and says that the iPhone 3G saw a good start and is sure to boost the achievement of Apple when the next report comes out in the coming quarter.

Apple has around 10,300 Mac outlets for which 2,496,000 Macintosh computers were shipped during the quarter. This represents 41% unit growth and 43% revenue growth over the year ago quarter. The number of iPods sold in this quarter is estimated at 11,011,000 making 12% unit growth and 7% revenue growth over last year’s quarter. Here is the report at a glance:

CUPERTINO, California—July 21, 2008—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2008 third quarter ended June 28, 2008. The Company posted revenue of $7.46 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.07 billion, or $1.19 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $5.41 billion and net quarterly profit of $818 million, or $.92 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 34.8 percent, down from 36.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 42 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Steve Jobs termed this quarter as “the best June Quarter for both revenue and earnings in Apple’s history.” He is also extremely happy about the success of the 3G iPhone and added that several more wonderful products are on the way. He doesn’t say a word about what the new products though, and even Peter Oppenheimer too just said, “Sorry, I can’t talk about future products” when asked about the coming products during the sales report conference.
