Apple to earn revenue in billions

The future couldn’t possibly be brighter for Apple.

Antone Gonsalves of Information Week figures that the iPhone launch will set the cash registers ringing at Apple:

Apple could take in as much as $1 billion in the initial launch of the 3G iPhone, which is scheduled to go on sale in 22 countries on Friday.

At the same time, it appears that the business community is also keen to welcome Apple’s new offering: support for Active Sync, Microsoft Exchange, and remote wipe and more. Dave Greenfield at ZDnet reports that 17 % of IT executives were wiling to deploy the iPhone. And it isn’t even launched yet:

While just two percent use iPhones today as their mobile messaging platform, 5.3 percent of enterprises says they will do so by 2010. that’s an increase of 164 percent. Similarly, while just 17 percent of users may rely on iPhones as their mobile server, 37.6 percent say they will do so by 2010.

There are some moderate voices too. The biggest surprise there is that Gene Munster (who predicted that App Store will be worth over a billion and that Apple would sell 45 million devices by 2009 is all tempered and cautious. While the iPhone does have business appeal, it seems that:

The iPhone’s hip aura, while appealing to college students and “creative” professionals, may actually hinder its appeal among the gray suits, and culturally, it’s hard for some organizations to get their arms around that, giving their employees something they can have fun with.

He does have a point, and I guess we’ll know in a few months how that works out. It’s just that Gene Munster being restrained in his predictions is still a surprise.
