Awaiting the release of Apple’s iPhone at Big Apple

Believe it or not, people have already started queuing up for Apple’s 3G iPhone. But not all of them are Apple fanatics–some people queuing up outside New York’s Apple store have ulterior motives.

They’re the sustainable- agriculture activists (WhoFarm), who believe in organic farming, and mitigating climate change. CNN reported that instead of loyal Mac fanboys and fangirls, the line was formed by environmental activists. They also intend to influence potential iPhone users on the issue of supporting organic farming, apart from the entering the Guinness Record for “the longest time spent lining up for something.”

Apple releases have always gained extensive media attention, and it looks like these activists are  using this opportunity to garner publicity for their cause. If their plan succeeds, we could see a lot more people using these tactics at other Apple releases in future. Perhaps the next queue will be made by activists enlightening people about the oil crisis or renewable sources of energy.
