Canadians delighted with their iPhones
Prior to the launch of the 3G iPhone, there was focus on how it would do in Canada in particular, since Canada is home to RIM (Research in Motion) and is considered the land of the BlackBerry.
When Rogers Communications announced its outlandish pricing for the iPhone in Canada, we got our first clues of how Apple’s iPhone would fare in Canada. And now it turns out the iPhone has been very well received in Canada. Reuters reports that a large number of Canadians lined up for hours to become among the first in Canada to own an iPhone 3G. Canadian iPhone enthusiasts insisted that spending a sleepless night waiting outside a Rogers store was worth it.
Since its launch last year, we’ve wondered when the iPhone will wander into neighboring Canada. RIM is after all a formidable adversary, so it makes sense for Apple to be patient and launch a 3G version directly.
As we reported earlier, there was a wave of protest against the pricing by Rogers. Rogers eventually bowed to pressure and to rumored threats from Apple and added a less expensive plan.
