Funny Applications

There are many fun things in the app store, but its is’nt all great either.
For example, I felt cheated after downloading one weird application. I should have considered going downtown to buy crayons for my kid before downloading this funny calculator. Lucky for me it cost just $4.99. I really thought this color calculator will give me a perfect CXI mix values, but oh no, this is just one of those useless applications out there.
In fact, after this experience I spent some time looking around, and found that there are plenty of calculators in the App Store—most of them very basic, and all of them costing much more than what they are worth.

Here are a few examples:

The Wheel Calculator by eNATAL LLC
Purpose served: Determines the accurate estimated delivery date (EDD) for pregnant woman.
Price: $14.99

Why it’s overpriced. In the first place, wheel is famous for being inaccurate and comes free in some phones and PDAs. Moreover, this thing is readily available in hospitals, clinics, drug stores, internet, etc, even in a remote place.  The price should have been $0.99-$1.99. I wish some other developers develop this same application and deploy it for $1.99

Resistance Calculator by iHardwood.com
Purpose served: Calculates resistor color codes.
Price: Earlier tag $8.99. At present the price is set at $0.99
Why it’s overpriced. This is just a basic resistor color code that some 50 cents cardboard cards can solve. I wish the company refund the extra $8 (minus Apple commission) to those who downloaded this application before the price cut. For now, this could be really helpful to budding young electronic enthusiast to crack the code and built a better application.

OK, maybe they aren’t all worthless, but there is definitely a tendency among developers to overcharge at present. When browsing the App Store, it makes sense to keep your wits about you, and assess the value of an app carefully before buying.

Some of these developers are making the App Store a joke, seriously. Beware of the calculators in the finance section. Do not venture into this section if you are sleepy, you may end up hitting the purchase button on one of those costly apps. The worst part is we cannot request for refund.

Add up to the list if you have seen some funny or not value-for-money applications on the App Store.
