iPhone 3G launch: Coming to India in August?
Techtree has this scoop that the iPhone will be coming to India sooner than expected. It seems that the iPhone will hit the Indian markets by August. While Apple has signed deals with both Voddafone and Airtel to sell the iPhone in India, it looks like Vodafone will launch its service first, while Bharati Airtel will release it towards the end of August/beginning of September.
Only the 8GB model will be available initially. The price of the iPhone as well as of the applications is expected to be subsidized for the Indian market. The 8 GB model will be priced somewhere between Rs. 11,500-12,000 ($270-290). Though the details of the data plans are not out yet, this price is independent of any data plans, so we’ll have to wait and see how the carriers work out the plans.
We reported yesterday that the iPhone is launching in 20 countries in August, though we do not know which ones. Assuming Techtree is right, we can tick one off the list. Just 19 more to go.
