iPhone 3G to kill competition

The latest research by Strategy Analytics says that the iPhone will capture 35 percent of the touchscreen phone market. In US. In 2008. But in 2009, it seems that:

The competition is rising fast and hanging on to that 35 percent marketshare will be a major challenge for Apple.

I’m sure these findings are based on some substantial research, but I don’t like the last bit is abut Apple “Hanging on” to its market share in 2009. While other companies are offering only a device (Nokia Tube, Samsung Instinct, etc.), Apple offers a platform (the App Store, and the iTunes store), and gives you access to it through its handset.

The battle for market share is certainly on, but it should be described differently: other phone makers will find it hard to hang on to their market share, faced with the onslaught from Apple.

Also, the competition is struggling to catch up. Nokia’s Tube is still a mystery, and RIM’s BlackBerry Thunder is a joke.
