iPhone Sales Predictions: Apple finally outdoes Gene Munster

A favorite game among analysts in the tech world is to try and predict the sales of the iPhone for a specific period, or in general make any iPhone related predictions. Stocks, profits, revenue, market share—anything you can think of has already been predicted.

In this column, we’ll file all such predictions as they come in, and you’ll be able to find them by date or by analyst, and also see for yourself how the predictions actually panned out.

One of the foremost “predictors” is Gene Munster, analyst at Piper Jaffray. Let’s begin with his latest–a quick summary of all his earlier predictions is available after the jump.

Gene Munster predicted yesterday that Apple would sell 425000 units over the weekend. And as we know, the actual sales reached the one million mark. Apple’s announcement came within hours of Munster’s estimate, so the most bullish of all analysts out there had to send out a clarification explaining that he overestimated the impact of activation glitches Apple experienced initially.

And here are some earlier predictions by Munster (do read till the end—it’s fascinating!)
