Physical iPhone Keyboard
The iPhone is a mini computer, no one denies this fact. The iPhone is capable of doing many things which other devices cannot, we all know this too. Since its launch, the number of accessories and applications made for the iPhone has become almost countless. The number will shoot up with the upcoming release on July 11. Developers around the world are experimenting crazy and great concepts on the iPhone. Here is one great and crazy concept for the iPhone. This will silence those who had been complaining that iPhone does not have a keyboard.
Ian Hamilton shares this idea of having a keyboard dock for the iPhone. The response to the idea is somewhat interesting. Some agrees that it is a great idea and some considers the idea as disappointing. Some of the responders even commented that it would be good if users can switch to landscape while working on documents using the keyboard. The ideal keyboard for this idea as suggested is bluetooth keyboard or a simple wired keyboard.
To me, the idea of having a physical keyboard dock for the iPhone is a bad idea. The first reason is the burden of carrying around an extra load, when I am on the move. I don’t think a keyboard can really be that useful when it comes to working heavily on documents. The size and functionality of the keyboard is another puzzle to be pondered on. Carrying around a keyboard 6 times the size of the main device to which you connect is not at all cool. I am sure there must be a way to solve this on the phone itself. I don’t find the need for a physical keyboard when I am comfortable with the built in virtual keyboard.
If the inabilities to edit, cut and paste text are solved, we will all forget this clunky idea. The idea of a physical keyboard is more of a fancy than a necessity. First, let us all wait for the coming of spreadsheet and text editor to the App Store that will allow us to edit and cut and paste text.

Not really true. Windows Mobile can do anything the iPhone can do, and more!

They have rubber keyboards where you can roll it up and put it in your backback
My iPhone now has copy-paste, yet it still lacks the bluetooth keyboard support that would allow use of a REAL portable keyboard.
Bluetooth Keyboard support is STILL a glaring omission on Apple’s support. The ability to use the many folding/portable (and thus pocketable) keyboards on the market would transform the iPhone from primarily a media consumption device into a serious tool — useful for email, blogging, writing, documents, even spreadsheets on the go.
I can type 80 words per minute. How about your thumbs?
Bluetooth Keyboard support on the iPhone = the Netbook killer.
