How to make $5000 in 24 hours with the iPhone

Simple. Make an app that is staggeringly priced. So staggering that the price itself (and absolutely nothing else) will stand up and cry for itself. Put it on the App Store and count on the chances that some of the people visiting the store are doped. If you are not convinced, read the Los Angeles Times. The amazingly useless, featureless and audaciously priced “I Am Rich” app did attract customers and fetch a cool $5,600 for its developer, Mr. Armin Heinrich overnight:

…curious aristocrats — eight of them — had purchased it. Six people from the United States, one from Germany and one from France dropped a grand for the gem in the first 24 hours it was available… That’s $5,600 in revenue for Heinrich and $2,400 for Apple, which collects 30% of each sale for “store upkeep.

Before you go for any conclusion take a look at this screenshot about this app that we took just before it was removed from the App store:

After this kind of a “disclaimer”, would you pay $999.99 for a “secret mantra”? You can hate Heinrich, but can you counter him? It is “a work of art” it is neither offensive or obscene or harmful.

I have no idea why they did it and am not aware of any violation of the rules to sell software on the App Store…I am sure a lot more people would like to buy it — but currently can’t do so…The App is a work of Art and included a ’secret mantra’ — that’s all.” Excerpt from Heinrich’s e-mail to The Times.
