iPhone Tip of the Day: Dealing with Application Crashes

The problem with applications not loading properly, crashing very often or not working as expected on the iPhone or the iPod touch is still a problem. If you are experiencing one of the problems, perform one of the tricks provided below.

Reboot the iPhone/iPod touch: Press the Sleep/Wake button and turn off the device completely. Turn it back on after a few seconds. Turning the device off normally clears all potentially problematic data that causes some type of crashes.

Delete the Application: If putting off the iPhone does not help, delete the application, re-download the app and try the re-installation procedure provided below.

Hold down the icon of any of the applications until an ‘X’ mark is displayed against all the applications. Tap on the ‘X’ mark on the application that you want to delete, you don’t need to take backup in this case. Just ignore the pop up message prompting you to take backup of the application and tap on the Delete button. Re-download the application and re-install on your device. You are not charged again for those applications you have already purchased.

Restore your iPhone: If rebooting or re-installing the application does not help try to restore your device. Connect your iPhone/iPod to your Mac or PC. Open iTunes and click on the Restore button under the summary tab. Restoring the iPhone/iPod will erase contacts, calendars, photos and other data on the device. However, backed up information of text messages, notes, contact favorites, call history, sound settings, and widget settings will be automatically restored.

One of the above tricks will solve major crashing problems, try them out.
