Unfortunately, I think you’ve misunderstood the purpose of jailbreaking an iPhone.
If you’re a casual user that is going to simply use Installer and Cydia (with their default repositories), I completely agree that the headaches of jailbreaking outweigh the benefits.
For the rest of us more technical folk, we need to ssh into the phone, we don’t want our root password to be alpine, most important though, we want to install things other than “App Store” approved apps on our phone. We want Ruby Frameworks and HTTPD servers and Wordpress blogs. Sure, there are alternatives to some of these needs (not all) on the app store but you make it sound like jailbreaking means choosing one or the other. Jailbroken iPhones get to play with App Store, Installer, and Cydia.
The app store is great! But, all three are better.
thank you
i would like to know what is all the cydia and installer you are talking about, i just got my iphone and it was called a jail broken and the vendor told me i should not upgrade my itunes and stuff…please how do i go about enjoying my phone as i love downloading apps a lot on my phone and i do not want to be stuck with the apps.
I jailbroke my iTouch and it is worth it! You can customise youre iPod and download free fun apps you cant get from iTunes store and it was easy(and i dont know anything about computers) and i had no problems what so ever.
Its a risk worth taking.
