Pandora Radio to be Removed from the App Store

Pandora Radio, one of the top 10 free Apps will soon be removed from the App Store if things don’t turn out favorable according to the founder of the Company. Not only App Store, Pandora will also vanish from the Web Radio Services.

The constant fights between the owners of the copyrighted works and the companies that distribute the works via internet has necessitated the removal of the application. The tension was further mounted when federal panel doubled the per-song performance royalty rate for web radio stations payable to performers and copyright owners.

According to the tariff of the federal panel, Padora is bound to pay 70% as royalty fee out of its projected $25 million. Negotiations with the parties that represent artists and record companies have not worked out well.

This is what Westergren, founder of Pandora said:

We’re losing money. The moment we think this problem in Washington is not going to get solved, we have to pull the plug because all we’re doing is wasting money.

Apart from being one of the top ten free apps on the App Store, Pandora is one of the best and most popular Web radio services in the US having about 1 million daily listeners. On the App Store, the application is creating a record of attracting 40,000 new customers everyday. This is a sad news for all of us who have been with this web radio for long and for those new Pandora fans on the App Store.
