Slasher Application Removed from the App Store
It was neither funny nor entertaining to make stabbing motion holding the iPhone to hear horror sound. This is exactly what the application Slasher did when you opened it–displaying a nasty, sharp kitchen knife. Many residents and iPhone owners in Britian cried foul to Apple for deploying an App that indirectly promotes violence.
Slasher was there in the Entertainment category, but it has been taken down now. Apple has no explanation why/how the application landed in the App Store in the first place. The application made many Britons worried in view of the rising stabbing crime in Britain. For many, it caused considerable fear and anxiety.
Slasher was retailed at $0.99/₤0.59 and just makes horror sounds when you hold the iPhone and do stabbing action. The idea was too weird and its hard to figure out what sort of joy this stabbing activity was supposed to provide.
Some customers in Britain have gone to the extent of terming the deployment of the application as “irresponsible and pathetic.”
We know that all the applications in the App Store numbering more than 1500 are not all that great. Some are funny, some weird, some useless and Slasher was violent as well as crazy.
Slasher has joined the list of those applications that have disappeared mysteriously for good. Will the developer be blacklisted or the developer’s license revoked? We will know soon.

[...] just confine our discussion to App Store and no the whole iTunes. The uproar and anger in Britain for deploying Slasher is still fresh in our memories. Maybe Apple also is not willing to bear another uproar so soon. [...]
Apple Pulling iPhone Apps from the App Store…
Apple has become notorious for removing applications from the iPhone app store, generating huge amounts of controversy as each application is removed. This post aims to aggregate the controversy into a single page, for reference.
The infamous I am Ri…
Hi,
I read your post and finds it quite interesting. As for the removing of apps, I am sure you do know that we cannot throw the blame all on Apple. The App Store is there to serve us, and the problem with us (consumers) is that we are too confused often. We complain too much in some way. At present we are just unhappy that the censorship for App Store is not transparent. I feel pity for those guys who jokingly bought I Am Rich, that was a costly joke. Apple have no choice when it comes to copyright infringement and when there is an uproar against an application for some reasons (Slasher)Apple has to listen and act again. Anyways I have compiled the whole list of applications removed so far and the related reasons. You can look here for reference http://www.iphonefootprint.com/2008/08/complete-list-of-removed-apps-app-store/. And also have covered on the mystery of the App Store http://www.iphonefootprint.com/2008/08/app-store-hacked/. Thanks for the reference
