The iPhone “Batter”ing
The battery charge indicator on my iPhone keeps confusing me. And in a colorful fashion. This nagging little problem has been bothering me for quite some time already.
It happens like this. The 3G’s battery meter, at the upper right corner of the screen, shows the your phone is completely charged. Then all of a sudden the battery level indicator drops unexpectedly– with the warning message that you need to charge your iPhone ASAP. Weird thing was that this meter did not match with the larger indicator (red/green) when I was actually charging the phone. The meter actually did not do what it was supposed to do, it was not moving according to the charge consumed. Only re-booting the iPhone helped.
However, I am not the only one to have experienced this. Take a look at Apple’s Discussion Forums
As an iPhone fan what I find hard to understand is that why these minor glitches persist in a phone which is otherwise far better than any mobile phone out there.

The reason these problems persist is the same reason Nextel phones are rugged and have a far superior direct connect to any would be competitor. This was not built or designed as a phone first, the Iphone was a mp3 player first and a phone second.
Furthermore Apple did not allow anyone with any prior handset development to have any input into there design team. I work on high end handset’s all day and the Iphone is the biggest piece of garbage I’ve ever seen as a handset. Don’t get me wrong it advanced our technology for handsets and gave the entire industry a very strong push forward. Ever notice how terrible your cellular coverage is? It’s not At&t, it’s your terrible handset. Until Apple lets go of “doing it there” way on every product they make and get some experience. The Iphone’s biggest challenge will be little ones like this and making a phone call.
