Turkcell brings iPhone to Turkey

The Turkish have a reason to rejoice as Turkcell, Turkey’s leading GSM operator, will bring the iPhone to it’s post-paid and pre-paid customers later this year.

Vodafone had earlier announced that it will be distributing the iPhone in Turkey but now it looks like they will be facing stiff competition from Turkey’s largest provider. Turkcell has a market share of 56% with 35.4 million customers. However, neither the official release date nor the subscription plan have been disclosed by Turkcell.

Turkey maybe one of the few places with multiple carriers, along with countries like Australia and Italy. Telstra, Vodafone and Optus are the carriers in Australia and TIM and Vodafone Italy are the official carriers of the iPhone in italy.

Though Turkey will not be a part of this week’s iPhone 3G rollout, it is all set to join a host of countries where the iPhone 3G will be available officially later this year. The Turkish will probably be going into a thanksgiving mode as they will be getting the iPhone soon.
