Apple 9th September: Let’s Rock, There are iPod Nano, iTunes 8 and more

Hosted at Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts in San Francisco and begun with The Door’s “Touch Me”. Promising huh? Here is a quick round-up of what happened at Let’s Rock:

1. iTunes version 8 has been launched. Steve Jobs has described it as the the ubiquitous store and music player. Well, why not with Over 8.5m songs, over 125,000 podcasts, over 30,000 TV shows, 2600 movies and not to forget the iPhone app avalanche (over 3,000 iPhone apps). The updated iTunes is available at Apple.

2. HD and SD are there for $2.99 and $1.99.

3. In the iPod Classic range, comes the 120GB model. It replaces the 80GB and the 160GB. Also in the US, car integration facilities for the iPhone will be available.

4. iPod nano was not a rumor after all.  The nano packs some punch as it comes with an accelerometer from the illustrious brethren iPhone. This is the thinnest iPod ever, however, with a flip –side – only 24hr music battery and only 4 hr video battery. If you are green friendly – this is the “cleanest” iPod ever –arsenic free glass, mercury –less and comes with a splash of color. The nano is available in Black, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, violet and red.

5. The iPhone has nothing new except bug fixing - Now the iPhone  The firmware 2.1 is available and existing version 2 owners get a free update.

6. Finally the App Store. We have some official statistics. In 60 days, believe it or not,  app downloads have crossed  the 100 million download marks.

The show lasted for 52 minutes from 10 am till 10.52 am and ended strangely with an acoustic guitar performance. Well, after all Jack Johnson rocks at the iTunes – he is the number 1 selling male artist up there.

Overall, the whole show was about refinements. Nothing  radical. However, it again highlights Apple’s versatility. They don’t depend on iPhone alone. May be some new frontiers in 2009?
