Apple Event: Anticlimax or Product Versatility?
The party did not particularly rock. The whole thing was more about refinements and readjustments. And bug fixings. Good, smooth, lots of smart up-gradations and also the envi-friendly rhetoric.
Good enough for anybody else. But lacked the Apple appeal for “one more thing”. Everyone present felt that. Everyone watching, following felt that. And the stock market also felt that as the Apple stock went down by 3%.
A bit crazy as you see. Just 2 months before they gave you the world’s sleaziest phone, right? Then this is also the last quarter. And also, don’t you see the silverware? Apple’s innovation does not stop at iPhone. (Hope the same applies to the iPod range – I guess we have seen too much refinement in that line. Sure Apple dominates more than 73% of market share in digital music. But Apple is more about technology innovation, than market dominance right? )
I am not that pessimist. Cupertino guys are creative. They are the ones out there to “make the dent in the universe”. But give them a break. Postpone the postmortem till the first quarter of 2009. If they don’t come up with anything then, well write an Apple obituary.
