How to restore jailbroken iPhone 3G?

What would happen if you jailbreak your iPhone 3G?

  1. The warranty for the iPhone is scrubbed the moment you jailbreak your iPhone. Apple is no longer responsible for replacing or repairing your device after pwning.
  2. You might not be able to launch any applications downloaded from the App Store before jailbreaking. Even those applications that you installed before the jailbreak would freeze. You’d need to re-download the all the apps, if this happen.
  3. Many problems will surface if you restore the backup you took before the jailbreak.
  4. You’ll be able to download third party apps that are not in the App Store.

Now you regret that you made your phone somewhat useless and want to de-pwn? How to do that?

Open iTunes, click on Store and Deauthorize your computer from iTunes and Sync your iPhone. When the syncing is done, reauthorize your iTunes and sync your iPhone again. That’s it, never jailbreak your iPhone 3G again.

Is this a joke? All apps downloaded from the App store work perfectly fine on a jailbroken 3G iPhone. The app store is accessible and you can purchase or download free applications from the apps store.

If you decide to revert back just do a full restore from iTunes.

If you’re iPhone needs to go in for warranty just backup, restore and turn in for warranty repair. When you get it back, jailbreak and restore from backup.

Hi John,
Your experience, applications working on a jailbroken iPhone 3G sounds strange. For some reasons, it doesn’t work for me, may be something is wrong :-). Thanks for the comment

Rob

I just jailbroke my 3G in 2.1 and my old apps work perfectly fine. Cydia, Installer, and the App Store are all on my home screen and all fully functional. I haven’t needed to restore from a backup of my jailbroken iPhone so I can’t speak to that issue.

I think this article is Apple propaganda to the extreme cause non of the original post is true at all.

I jailbroke my Iphone 3g 16g about 2 months ago it’s been great I have tons of new apps, till recently my phone cant make no calls check my voicemail or look at my contacts, everything else works, fine I can recive calls only, can any one tell me what’s wrong with it how can I fix this pls asap….

John

Restore back to original OS using iTunes. Then jailbreak again and restore from backup. Although I would look at any apps you have installed recently that may of caused your phone to stop functioning.

kate caused my iphone 3g to have problems with the contacts as well. deleted it and now everything is fine.

The same thing happened with my iPhone 3g after I installed Kate but I restored it and works again and you can restore a jailbroken iPhone 3g using iTunes 8

hey guys. i just jailbroke my iphone 3g and it worked perfectly for one night, the day after (today) it just freezes after 10 seconds of reboothing .. what should i do ??

Ryan

I definitely believe the part about this possibly voiding your warranty with Apple, but with an iPhone 3G running 2.2 jailbroken by QuickPwn, you can still download apps from the appstore and use them. What may happen is that apps you have already downloaded will open and crash. To fix this, delete the app by going into shaky icons mode and clicking the x. You can then re-download the app through the appstore - the appstore even remembers apps that you’ve already purchased and gives you a simple confirmation screen to confirm that you want to download them again. No worries.

hi i jailbroke my iphone with OS 2.2.1 and firmware 2.30.03.
It went well and phone works still but i want to restore it back to factory settings.
Should i have jailbroke in the first place with that OS and firmware? and if not, will there be problems restoring? and if left jailbroken is it a matter of time before it breaks anyway. Thankyou in advance for any responses.

Wait… does it actaully return the warranty after you restore it?

Former Apple Empl

LISTEN UP!!!!!
I have worked for Apple for the last 8 yrs and moved on.
Jailbreaking is NOT ILLEGAL… Apple lost the court battle.
How ever if you Jailbreak your Iphone and it messes up with viruses or whatever. You can just restore it using Itunes Restore and it brings the phone back and you have to re-jailbreak it again.

Everything is backed up in Itunes or use an external drive to backup.

For Warranty yes if you bring it back in a Jailbreak mode you are screwed. You must remove all evidence of jailbreak software on your phone. (Restore it brings it back and bring it back for warranty)

However the 4g iphone due out summer 10. Apple has a new software system that can shut your Carrier down and the phone.
But wait. Are there back doors.. Yes.
