iPhone 2.1 Update for 3G Fixes
Tuesday, September 9, 2008 Apple Event was not all for the iPod nano and the iPod touch. It is likely that we will have nothing more to do with lawsuits related with iPhone 3G. iPhone update 2.1 is coming this Friday that will fix all major issues with the iPhone 3G.
This is what Steve Jobs said regarding the coming update:
It’s a big update. It fixes a lot of bugs. You will get fewer call drops. You are not going to get some of the crashes and other things that we’ve seen.
Apart from these, Jobs also hinted that the update will give longer battery life and minimize the rate of application crashes and system crashes. For those who have 2.0 version the upgrade to version 2.1 will be free, however, for those who have not upgraded to 2.0 firmware, the update is going to cost $9.99.

Beta download for the upcoming update is already available for developers. Hopes are flying high at this moment with many predictions and rumors doing their usual rounds. One of the most welcoming prediction is the coming of the turn-by-turn GPS guide with the update. At present the iPhone 3G does not provide this feature and users often complain of the in-accurate GPS display.
Rumors/reports have it that the new iPhone GPS will have the capability to track your exact velocity and direction. This is what we all call turn-by-turn GPS, which we all want on the iPhone. As for the frequent 3G call drops, this update will expose either it is a hardware problem or network coverage problem with AT&T. We already have some proof that nothing is wrong with the antenna of the iPhone 3G.
If the coming update fixes some of the major problems, other competitors in the smartphone market will experience a real downhill plunge. There is no magical way to compete with the innovative software of the iPhone and there is no easy way to replicate the success of the App Store. At present the App Store has more than 3000 application. With all these the iPhone 3G is not just a phone, a web browser and an iPod, but it is everything you can think of technology in your pocket.

Is it fixing iphone 3rd party applications crash issues?
any idea kevin?
Hi Susan and Cr3,
With the latest update, I find the following improvements as promised
1.Decreases the number of dropped calls.
2.Significantly” improves battery life “for most users.”
3.Reduces time to backup to iTunes.
4.Quashes bugs that caused crashes when users had “lots” of third-party applications installed on their iPhone.
5.Improves the accuracy of the 3G signal-strength display.
We will know soon if some users still have issues after the upgrade.
then there is nothing about 3rd party applications crash issue?
