iPhone Backup Tips
Is taking backup of your iPhone taking so much time? We have some tips to quicken the process. If you have VoiceNote application on your device, delete the application and all associated files of the application. You can always re-install again. The crawling backup process is due to the presence of some applications and it so happens that deleting VoiceNote shortens the backup process for many users.
The other tips are:
- While taking back up make sure you do it through a USB port rather than USB hub and try changing ports if you are having a problem.
- The ideal time for taking backup is night time when you are not expecting calls and make a routine check either the syncing is going well or have just hang. How to check?
Go to User>Library>Application Support>Mobile Sync>Backup and open the folder. If files are being saved, the process is working. If the process has stalled cancel the backup this force the process to complete. You need to start from scratch again.
The exact reason for the slowness is not known. However, we hope this issue will be one of those ratified in the 2.1 update. To fix more of 2.0.1firmware issues see this.

My experience seems to confirm that if you have 20+ applications, first backup will take a while (~1.5 hours) and subsequent backups are faster. If 30+ applications, too too long (3-4 hours). I would highly recommend having under 20 apps to make backups tolerable. Also seems to reduce random crashes and locks and lag.
Hi Foss,
Thanks for sharing the trick that worked for you. I am sure this will definitely work out for many readers too. Just to reduce the pain of taking backup I have only 10 most handy applications on my iPhone for now.
