iTunes 8 5002 error: Quick fix

Many users have reported experiencing problems on their iPhones after upgrading to iTunes 8. Most of the problems again has to do with applications not loading properly, update not working, icons missing in some applications, etc, and this shows 5002 error message. Try one of the tricks for a quick fix.

  1. If there are any pending applications update, do the update directly via your iPhone or iPod touch before connecting it to the system where you have upgraded iTunes to version 8. Sync the device after necessary updates.
  2. Delete the applications that needs to be updated, you can download the latest version using the iTunes 8 on your system and install on your device later on. You are not charged again for applications that you have once purchased.
  3. Delete the applications that are no longer there on the App Store, such as PhoneSaber, Tris, etc. This is just one of the reasons for getting this 5002 error message.
  4. Uninstall the previous version of iTunes and go for a direct download of the latest one (iTunes 8). In this case you lose all your backup. This is an extreme step of course and the least recommended one. Try only if none of the steps above help.

5002 error is an unknown issue and the exact cause is yet to be determined. Apple is sure to come up with a permanent fix soon until then we have no better way out than to try these simple tricks.

Apart from this issue, Window Vista 32 bit and 62 bit users are reporting blue screen of death each time they plug in their iPhone or iPod touch. Some tricks to fix this are:

  1. Downgrade iTunes back to version 7.7. This could however, result in erasing applications.
  2. Un-install previous version iTunes and download and install iTunes 8. This will erase all your backups.
