Smartphone sales, iPhone among the favorite

Smartphone sales in the US has gone up to all time high 84% compared to the same time period of last year’s first seven months record. The first seven month of 2008 saw 9 million units of smartphone sold.

Some of the popular devices that comprise the long list of smartphones are Apple’s iPhone, HTC Touch, Nokia E90, Palm Treo, and RIM’s BlackBerry. The corresponding revenue estimated at 71%, a stunning $1.7 billion revenue. Nineteen percent of mobile phones in the US are now smartphones against last year’s nine percent.

The main reasons for the raised demand are declining prices, internet connectivity and other utility values. Smartphones are no longer gadgets for mobile professionals as they once were believed to be.

The big players in the Smartphone market in order of their sales ranking are RIM, Apple, Palm, Samsung and Motorola. Since the launch of the iPhone 3G, Apple is slowly catching up with RIM.
