T-Mobile Launching Android Phone to Compete with Apple’s iPhone

New York City, September 23, 2008 is the place and time T-Mobile is scheduled to launch the the first Google Android phone. The phone as we all have heard has a full touch screen functionality.

The press announcement comes as a surprise, but due to many media photo leaks and rumors the day will come as no major surprise, I miss secret Apple events here. The launch will bring the HTC Dream as G1 under T-Mobile and will be a direct competitor to all touchscreen devices including the iPhone.

Users even have the choice to slide out the main screen to use the real physical keyboard hidden beneath.

Some rumors have it that the launch of the G1 Mobile will also be the day for T-Mobile to announce the launch of 3G network on a national level.  Hopes are flying high that the G1 will come with turn-by-turn GPS navigation, a tilt sensor and full Wi-Fi functionality.

The main attraction of the day could be the launch of Google’s App Store known as the Android market, though this is not certain. However, with the launch of G1 we will know soon the quality and accessibility of Android applications. As for taking down the iPhone, people are still skeptical as Google has to compete with a hardware and a store that has gone through months of refinement.
