Jonathan Ive is a great designer and knows that color attracts people, so there are many colors to choose from if you are buying an iPod nano. Steve Jobs is holding back Jonathan’s idea of bringing out iPhone in many colors. The reasons for Jobs’ objection are not known, though. I am fed up with all these black and white business, but cannot hate the iPhone.

Apple is obsessed with the number 2, when it comes to the iPhone. Think of the iPhone, the black and white motion pictures of the 60s come into our minds, the two primary colors on earth. The iPhone comes only in two colors, black and white right from the time of its inception. When it comes to storage capacity, buyers are given only two choice the 4GB or 8GB (first generation iPhone) and 8GB and 16GB (3G iPhone).

Apple also seems to be very fond of cutting $100, assuming that small price cuts don’t give confused fans the right pinch to buy when they are least prepared. Apple did that with the first generation iPhone and we got the faster and more efficient iPhone 3G at half the price of the original iPhone ($100 cut), all these are remarkable. Now, the question is will Apple be able to get out of this supposed color obsession and also go ahead with the $100 price cut on the iPhone 3G? I’ll love to buy a pink iPhone for my fiancé!

We all somehow know that Apple will not be willing to experiment with many mobile handsets in the way Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, etc, did. Apple is very much satisfied to be ruling the Smartphone zone with it’s lone gadget. Steve Jobs of all people is not concern about numbers but quality. Apple is the pathfinder of the awesome App Store and the iPhone has shown us that hardware is attractive but is only a brick without an equally compatible software.

Satisfied as we are with the iPhone, we see something missing. I am coming to the significance of colors. Is it possible that some prospective buyers are put off from buying the iPhone because there is no variety? Color is a serious obsession for some people and I am sure many iPhone owners have a love/hate relationship with the iPhone because of being only black and white? Apple has plans of pumping out iPhone in different colors. The manufacturing unit in China must be busy right now, but we will know the fact only when Steve Jobs comes on stage again and pull something out from his jeans pocket.

We have started seriously missing the long awaited 32GB iPhone. Coming of the 32GB is not the end of the iPhone story, though. Here is my wish list for Apple to consider:

• A real 32 GB iPhone (please let the business not end with rumors)
• iPhone of many colors for gifting (iPods have this)

As for the $100 price cut on the iPhone, Apple, I think is not in the position to implement it very soon, but will definitely take the chance if other competitors bring out something that can outshine the iPhone, no real threat here either. Moreover, Apple may go for price slash if they are very keen on reaching out to more people, but it is not desperate to struggle for sales either, it is in the lead anyway and the iPhone is not going to be shelved so soon.

Price cut, different color iPhones will be perfect for the holiday season, but it is not coming that soon. We can dream about all these good things by mid 2009. Oh, I can’t still shake off the thought of buying a pink iPhone.
