iPhone tip for adding extension number to contact list

Hearing a very soothing (interactive voice response, IVR) asking what extension I am trying to reach does not go well with the blood when I am in a flurry and need to ask my friend something quick and important. More restless people are sure to toss away their iPhones into the nearest garbage bin. Sorry, that’s too much, but something of this sort can happen. The best practice to avoid this is adding the extension number right into the contact info and avoid the mistake of dialing the extension of your friend’s Boss when you are frantically trying to connect to your friend.

How do you add extension number?

1. Go to the contacts page, tap on the contact to which you want to add extension number and tap on the edit button. Tap on the forward sign displayed against the phone number. See the images shown below.

2. To add the extension number, tap the +*# button. Tap the Pause button to add comma (this is the silent wait period). After this add the extension number.  Tap the Save button to keep the changes.

Are there anymore contacts to which you need to add extension numbers? Repeat the same procedure. This way, you are saved from getting frustrated and also have done something to save time.

But can you set it up to dial the extension on command, i.e when the user hears the prompt to add an extension? The “pause” is not sufficient for every situation…. the timing is not necessarily what’s needed before continuing to dial.

    every comma = 2 seconds

just add more commas– hope that helps!
