Stanford University app for the iPhone and iPod touch users
Who are the new third party developers at the App Store?
Stanford University.
We talked about it earlier, the possibility of iPhone apps coming from Stanford University after they offered a course iPhone Application Programming for the fall. Though not quite from that school of though yet, this app from Stanford University for the iPhone/iPod touch is, as expected, impressive.
What this education app is all about? It is about placing Stanford University right on your palmtop. iStanford lets you do four basic things: lets you navigate the world’s largest university campus smoothly (a big deal, ask Freshman in the campus), provides course listings, provides you the news of sports in the university and lets you browse WHO, the directory.
1. Navigating the campus: You have the detailed map for the 8,183 acres campus, with search, booking marking, zooming in and out and "Find Me" GPS options.
2. University Sports: Get the latest of the university sports right on your palmtop.
3. Find your course: What about having the details of the “iPhone Application Programming” course right there on your iPhone and within an app? Or individually search them. You can also bookmark courses. You will get the details about every course in terms of everything from course description to timing and even the room number.
Look out for the My Courses section, which will let you keep track of your academic performance at Stanford. You can view yourcourse and grade history here. You can drop/add classes into Axcess and view the GER’s you have fulfilled.
4. Directory: Find who is who at Stanford. Get their contact numbers and e-mail and add them to your iPhone/iPod touch contact list.
Some other future updates:
A. Viewing the Marguerite Shuttle Routes and real time bus locations.
B. Viewing university balance according to past statements and transaction history.
And all that for free!
All these through a brilliantly neat UI that also uses a beautiful color scheme. I found this app much more handy to use than anything else, even the Stanford University website. I only have one complain. When I am going to the atheletics section and tapping on, say, for instance, Field Hockey, the application closes. Tried re-installing. Still does not work. Anybody, any help?
