The question of probability: An app to gauge your chances

CoinToss is a free iPhone app that lets you toss a virtual coin and also see where is it suspended during the course of a particular toss by using the iPhone accelerometer.

On one hell of a lazy Friday afternoon, we were indecisive enough to decide what to after lunch. Chance had it that as Kevin was browsing through the impossible App Store, he stumbled upon the Coin Toss app. Review an app that is specifically designed to get over indecision was what we decided to do.

Andrew reviewed two of these decision making digital dice chips and was apprehensive all the way about coded randomization. I am bit optimistic than Andrew though. (He says, I am more more indecisive.) Whatever it is, after using the app I decided that though I am neither a philosopher, nor somebody busy with always making life changing decisions, sometimes a bit of mystic digital wobbling does help.

This Coin Toss works this way:

1.    Instead of flipping, like the real coin, you either pinch on its virtual brethren. Or you just gently slide over it from top to bottom.

2.    Once the coin is flipped you get to hear the tinkling/clinking sound of its settling on a solid plank.

3.    Its virtual advantage is that you can pause the coin’s wobbling when it is in the “air” and see the various versions of its three-dimensionality with the help of the iPhone/iPod touch accelerometer, mid-air.

4.    And all that for free.

So from now on, there ain’t any necessity to carry the "cumbersome" half-quarter in your pocket. Just carry the sleek iPhone instead and decide whether or not to buy that weird looking app (or decide anything under the sun) just by using your guts and trusting the probability value of digital randomness.
