Loved that sound when a monkey in your iPhone game gulped a banana down its throat and got all charged up? Did you try playing that game in silent mode? After all, it’s the insanely imaginative world of iPhone gaming. And you deserve the complete audio experience, especially as you touch along the sleekly geeky iPhone screen to (for instance) free some trapped souls in the intense world of touch-screen soul leveraging.
These sounds, plus the game, offer you an escape route out of the boring (sometimes irritating) world in the outside. As Sandy (a friend of mine from Cupertino), points Read More...
I'm pleased to announce that the Linux 2.6 kernel has been ported to Apple's iPhone platform, with support for the first and second generation iPhones as well as the first generation iPod touch. This is a rough first draft of the port, and many drivers are still missing, but it’s enough that a real alternative operating system is running on the iPhone.
“Planetbeing” of iPhone devteam member, the person who is responsible for porting Linux over to iPhone.
This version of Linux on iPhone has:
1. Framebuffer driver
2. Serial driver
3. Serial over USB driver
4. Interrupts, MMU, clock, etc.
What is not present:

Think of plugging your iPod or iPhone into a fruit or vegetable to charge the device. Sounds a bit crazy right? Well, some crazy tests have already been conducted. However, the results are not satisfactory. Wasting a dozen onions to squeeze out a mere 5 volt current isn’t good until we find a better way.
Long time back in school we all learned Chemistry lessons on how to extract ions and electrons using copper and zinc rods and inserting them into citrus fruits. I remember seeing a dim and short glow of a flashlight bulb used for the experiment. That volt Read More...
Ask Tuan Anh. The guy who is making a fortune and helping others to make a fortune in Vietnam through providing the service of unlocking iPhones. And for that he has 30 member strong team. These team members are paid $300/month on an average which is about thrice the income of an average Hanoian.
The trick is simple:
1. The iPhone is first opened up and stripped to its motherboard.
2. Then its, baseband chip (i.e. the element that controls the connection between the iPhone and the mobile network) is extracted from the motherboard. (Which is easier said than done, considering the string Read More...
What’s the best way to shake off all the gloomy recession news? Or any other gloomy stuff? Simple, get enlightened with some of the positive pep talk. Not just positive, but also wise.
During a slightly casual browse in the App Store I somehow chanced upon this app that was released earlier this month. The app has so far been sitting somewhat quietly in the “Social Networking” category. This app had a red, start –spangled background on which these very encouraging set of words are engraved:
“Public Spirit”.
And it was free.
If nothing else, this was interesting. And curiosity, combined with the ease Read More...
The Google Storm
Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO has finally announced that he is quitting and is joining the young team of President-elect Barack Obama. The decision was made known late Thursday night during Google’s top brass conference. Sergey Brin and Larry Page were reportedly surprised by Schmidt’s decision. Google has started searching for a new head to lead the company. An insider revealed that the new chief is expected to take office before Christmas.
Though it is not clear yet what portfolio Schmidt might hold in the Obama Cabinet, some workers close to Obama are speculating that Schmidt could be given the Read More...
Apple is getting ready for the special Black Friday sales, US Apple Store will be up soon. The one day sales plan, however, does not include the iPhone 3G among the products for discount; that's sad. The products available for discount include the 20 inch iMac, the 13-inch Macbook, the 8GB iPod nano, the iPod classic, the iPod touch, Time Capsule, Apple TV, the Apple Bluetooth headset and Apple accessories.
To make things fair, Apple customers around the world will get the same products with same discounts on Black Friday sales. Moreover for easy access, Apple also has listed contact numbers Read More...
While roaming in the wilderness of Cupertino on a sunny Saturday, I met this geeky–looking guy sitting under a tree feverishly fumbling with his iPhone. The guy looked definitely geeky--unkempt hair and blood–shot eyes possibly the result of dabbling with his iPhone too much through the night.
As I approached him to ask for directions to the Apple Inc. office, he looked up, startled:
“W-w-what?”
“Can you tell me how can I go to Apple’s office?”
“What do you want from there?”
“I want to interview Steve Jobs and ask his opinion on iPhone applications.”
“Why him? I am a better man.”
“W-w-what?!”
“Yes. I am an “app”-o-phobic.”
That’s Read More...
Some time back Apple rejected the Opera browser citing that they don’t want any competition for their dear Safari browser. Google apparently does not seem to care much about competition. They have allowed the Opera Mini 4.2 beta to become the first third party browser for their Android phones.
Features: The test version will have many of the features of the Opera Mini 4.2 – – zooming, saving, bookmarking, searching for in-line text, syncing via Opera link and swapping skins.
The browser is fast and addictive. As Jessica Dolcourt points out, the Android optimized Opera Mini is:
fast speeds over T-Mobile's 3G network, Read More...
