Flash Memory Games for the iPhone and iPod touch
The developers of Easy Relax have come up with another nice game this time. It’s a the same old card memory game. I used to play this game long back and had an immense liking for it. Now rockifone.com comes up with an entirely new iPhone avatar of the good old card memory game and makes it visual and audio treat.
The game has three levels, easy normal and hard. In the “Easy” level you have 16 cards. In the “Normal” level you have 36 cards and in the “Hard” level you have 64 cards. You need to tap on the cards and see what is there on the back of them. Once you are done with that you got to tap on the pair of the cards that are similar.
How to remember them? I think tapping on them through one particular co-ordinate first helps you in remembering the locations easily. That way it is better, though you might lose out on some points.
How the point is scored? Some of the game’s fun lies in there. So I won’t reveal much of that. Hint - it’s a pretty high-scoring game and the scoring has got something to do with your speed. The “Easy” level is pretty easy, but the 64 card “hard” is a good enough memory exercise.
Presentation: You are in for some pleasant surprises here if you have played the card version of this game earlier. In place of the traditional cards, you have different fruit icons. Once you are done with the game, the entire iPhone screen looks like a sort of a fruit market space, including of course Apple and Pineapple!
The game is set against a light green-blue display and a pasture like background. Each card has a cute looking strawberry on it. (Easy), a Pine Apple (Normal) and Orange (Hard). Both the easy and hard levels are centered around the fruit theme while the “Normal” level includes a bit of an animal touch.
Overall, a very engaging interface.
The game’s real surprise, however, lies in its music. I am personally a big fan of audio content in apps and this app has sound effects that really help in memorizing. You have the option to choose from three types of music from its “background” music option. Try all three and see which helps you to concentrate more. I am personally in for “Music 3”. Plus you also have a nice additional sound effect that comes when the right pairs are matched together.
How does it help in having it on the iPhone instead of the PC? PC versions of this game have been available for quite sometime. I thought that playing it on iPhone has a certain advantage, regarding remembering the right location. On a larger screen it is easier to remember the exact memory location.
Now all that comes for free and is certainly recommended for anyone looking for a nice, nifty memory exercise. There is only one thing, that the developers might like to include in their next update. Instead of tapping on the “New Game” button, they might like to include the accelerometer function in order to shuffle the cards for a new game. Not a necessity, but certainly a nicety- Just to add to the overall presentation.
That apart, more levels please! It’s good app to concentrate and cool down, but can be a great one if you include larger memory fields.
No wonder, its a favorite with App Store visitors who have given it a 4 star ranking.
