iPhone crime on the rise: A lesson for iPhone owners

Thieves and robbers have uncontrollable weakness for the iPhone? The first iPhone related crime was reported on May 21, 2008 where a man was attacked by a co-passenger on a COTA bus in Ohio. The attacker was trying to snatch away the victim’s iPhone. The latest attempted crime on an iPhone owner happened on Friday November 14, 2008.

Operations Manager of Ask.com, Gene Wood was traveling on a subway and watching a movie on his iPhone. A mugger reached from behind and the iPhone was snatched away. Gene Wood gave a hot chase for his iPhone and nailed the mugger to the ground. The incident occurred at Church Gate Station when the Train stopped for a while.

Unlucky, so to say for the iPhone thief, Wood stands 6 feet tall and weighs 240 pounds and also happened to be a good runner. The thief couldn’t get away that fast, Wood got back his phone after pinning the thief and screaming out some colorful words.

Wood walked back to the train as a hero for saving his personal iPhone and continued the travel.

This is old news, but the lesson that we have learned from this incident will ring long and loud. iPhone users are henceforth warned not to flash out their devices in public places, the temptation might be hard to control, but it is better to do what is good for you. iPhone thieves should think twice before snatching the device from someone who stands 6 feet and weighs around 240 pounds, it’s a risky business!
