iPhone Gift Card available now: Is it a good idea?

Success of the iTunes Gift card and Apple Store Gift Card concepts has made Apple to come out with something new again. You can now gift an iPhone 3G to someone this holiday season. All you need to do is go to the nearest Apple Store and purchase a 3G iPhone gift card. The recipient will be able to redeem the gift card at any Apple retail outlets. Here is what Apple offers for iPhone 3G gifting solution:

Give someone an iPhone 3G Gift Card and when the lucky recipient comes in to redeem it, an Apple Retail Store Specialist will take care of every detail. The Specialist will get your recipient’s iPhone 3G up and calling, set up email, and help customize the Home screen, choose some great iPhone applications, personalize ringtones, and find favorite songs.

The whole process is not that simple yet. First you have to walk into Apple retail Store to purchase the gift card. Send the card to your recipient and the recipient again has to go to Apple retail outlet for redeeming the gift and for activating the device. In this case, the procedure of the purchase is simply prolonged; two visits to get the iPhone? Is it a good idea already to gift a card rather than the glossy device?

Well, it is not a bad move for the iPhone to sell well during the holiday season. Apple has even provided route map to find the nearest Store from where you can purchase the gift card. Select your State and the Store from the option and click on Go. There you have the exact address of the Store you are looking for and the driving direction from your place. The page also displays the opening and closing time of the retail stores and the contact numbers. Kinda handy.

The lucky recipient made an appointment with an specialist yesterday. Went to the apple store and the left the apple store with the gift card. The specialist said the lucky recipient hadn’t been with AT&T long enough to upgrade to the phone without a penalty of $200 additional dollars. The lucky recipient needs to be an AT&T customer for 21 months before transferring to the iphone.
