iPhone launch in Taiwan

The iPhone 3G will be officially launched on December 13, 2008 in Taiwan. As  reported earlier, the device will be sold by the largest telecom service provider in Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom. Pre-sales of the device has started and closes on December 10, 2008.

Chunghwa Telecom, with more than 300 sales outlets in the country and its partner Senao International Co. with more than 200 sales outlets is targeting to sell about 50,000 units by March next year. The launch time comes in time for Christmas season and the Chinese’s Lunar year.

The iPhone in Taiwan comes either with contract or on prepaid option. To get the 8GB iPhone free, customers have to sign a two-year contract with monthly payment of about $76 (NT$2549). To get a prepaid iPhone, customers would need to pay around $800 (NT$26,600). The minimum service charge on contract comes to about $31 per month.

The company is also planning to launch the second generation Google phone and is reported to be in talks with HTC, the maker of the Google phone.
