Apple has recently announced that the copy of iPhone application download from the App Store has reached 500 million. This is a rare feat considering the online store was launched just six months back. When the store was launched in July 2008, there were only few hundred apps. As of today, the App Store is housing more than 15,000 iPhone and iPod applications.

If app download continues at this rate, six months from now the figure would reach 1 billion making iTunes the biggest repository of songs, videos and smartphone application.
