Create-A-Cartoon Face: A creative app with illustrations from New York Times illustrator Steve Bjorkman
Create-A-Cartoon Face is a creative app that lets you make beautiful cartoon faces with your iPhone. The app is a result of a collaboration between New York Times Bestselling illustrator and author Steve Bjorkman and the iPhone developer Ryan Stubblefield.

The app lets you create create black and white cartoon faces against the backdrop of different hand-drawn backdrops.
You can tweak the faces with in a number of ways to get the exact image and expression you want. Change the face, make it a smiling boy’s face or a pirate like face with an evil smile, a cap and a beard.
For changing the cartoon face’s appearance, all you have to do is touch upon the icons given below. There are four options each for changing the eyes, lips, the face profile, eyebrows, nose, option to put in glasses, beard styles, moustache, hair, and the option to put on a cap.
After the piece is done, there is also the option to splash the background with color. And here you have 8 options to do so, each of which are hand-drawn.
Rating for the concept: 3.5
Interface: The use of the iPhone touch screen to just touch the individual icons to change the look and feel and expression of the cartoon face makes a lot of sense rather than trying to draw them on the screen. The faces themselves appear in simple and weirdly stylish black lines on a white screen.
Rating for the interface: 4
Plus, there is the option to save them in your photo library and e-mail them if you wish.
That’s great deal for having Steve Bjorkman personalized at your palmtop.
Future updates: Ryan Stubblefield, the developers at R.Cloud Software tells iphonefootprint:
We are working on an update that will animate your face, and the ability to record a message and send it to your friends.
The app has been received warmly at the App Store, especially with parents who describe this app as something that has hooked their children, letting their imagination flow.
Note: This is R.Cloud Software’s first app at the App Store. However, they are planning other apps in the same line. As Ryan tells us, their next project will also be down the design line:
Email This PostOur next project is a Valentine’s Day valentine app, where you can record a message, construct a valentine, and send it to your sweetheart. Look for it in a couple weeks!
