iPhone Firmware update reveals a future iPhone model

The biggest rumor in the blogo-sphere these days is about the next generation of iPhones. What will the next generation of iPhones look like? What will be their features? Will it be a iPhone nano? Even the cases for the proposed iPhone nano arrived briefly.

However, Apple has so far rubbished all these as rumors and nothing yet has arrived so far from Cupertino.

However, come June, we will probably see some major changes in the iPhone hardware. It seems that the MacRumors has got a peek into something solid.

MacRumors has discovered that Apple’s iPhone 2.x Firmware contains evidence of the next generation iPhone model which has been designated “iPhone2,1″. Following is a screen grab from MacRumors, whiich offers a possible peek at the iPhone hardware of future:

The thing to look out for here is the “key”. The “key” stands for  the model number.  These numbers, like iPod 1,1 (original iPod touch), iPod 2,1, (the latest version of the iPod touch which featured major hardware upgradations like speaker, volume controls, microphone support and majorly revamped and fast processor)iPhone 1,1 (original iPhone) or iPhone 1,2 (iPhone 3G) represent functionalities of these different devices.

In that light, it is possible that not any iPhone nano, but some major upgradations on the iPhone 3G are on the way. What will they be is anybody’s guess. Macrumor’s take is that it will include some major revamping along the following lines:

Rumors of the next generation iPhone point to the support of Multi-Core CPUs and possibly Multi-Core GPUs from Imagination Technologies. Apple has been building a team of chip engineers over the past year to participate in their own ARM processor designs that will presumably be used in future iPhones.

Feel free to tell us what you think about the future of the iPhone.
