New Products

To ensure usability and desirability, Apple introduced a new 17” Macbook pro adding up to the existing 13” and 15” Macbook product line. The new Macbook is a technology breakthrough for Apple and laptop makers. The new product comes with 8 hours of battery life and extended charge time from normal 300 to 1000 times. This gives the new thin and light Macbook three times longer life than any laptops in the market.

The new Macbook will be available from late January at $2799.

iLife 09 and iWork 09 were also introduced during the Keynote address. iLife 09 comes with a very exciting and innovative options to sort and store photos in different ways, such as, faces, places, slideshow etc. Users also have the option to find out where the pictures were taken using iLife 09.

iTunes change

Another significant announcement during the Expo keynote was that all music sold in iTunes would be completely DRM free in three months time. At present out of the 10 million songs in iTunes, 8 million are already DRM free. Schiller said the remaining 2 million songs will also be made DRM free in the first quarter of 2009.

The pricing of music tracks will also be changed starting April 2009. Studios will be allowed to sell Back catalog tracks for $0.69, standard tracks at the existing price, $0.99 and $1.29 for popular and new releases.

Schiller said that iTunes has come a long way since its start in April 2003 and said Apple is happy that iTunes has become the number one music distributor of all times.

Something for iPhone users

In what can be called as a welcome note for iPhone users, Schiller also announced that iPhone users will be provided the option to download iTunes music directly from their devices using either Wi-Fi or 3G network.
