Why Macworld 2009 was so quiet and disappointing?
Macworld Expo 2009 was one of the dullest Apple events after Jobs returned to Apple. The Mac machines one after the other, the range of iPods, the iPhone first generation and the 3G came one after the other, making Macworld Expos ever exciting and fun. 2009 Macworld Expo was a sad story. Not that Steve Jobs was not on stage. Phil Schiller performed well to light up the event with the announcement of a new product and software updates. Nevertheless, the event came, it was quiet and disappointing.
Why so?
Expectations were high before the Macworld Expo 2009 started. Most of us went there expecting to get a glimpse of the iPhone nano or at least the long awaited iPhone 3G 32GB. Instead the 17 inch Macbook came to steal the show. We marveled the 8 hour battery life of the new product; it is a ground breaking technology, no doubt. However, who needs an 8 hour power backup except people who are so forgetful to charge their machines in days and of course those people who live in places that have frequent power shut down. I choose to stay with my 15 inch Macbook.
Updates on iLife and iWork too failed to catch the attention of Apple faithful. The new pricing structure of songs in App Store and making iTunes songs DRM free by April 2009 all came to cover up the absence of the iPhone nano and the iPhone 3g 32GB, but failed to cheer us up.
The Consolation
When the Macworld Expo turned sour, many turned their heads toward International Consumers Electronic Show (CES) and got excited hearing the announcement of Palm Pre. The new webOS has promises and the wireless charging dock rings a new bell of hope. Is this the end of Apple iPhone? Analysts say that iPhone nano would be coming soon to revive the popularity of the iPhone family.
iPhone sales have slowed down either due to the recession or for some other reasons. The market is not that bright for the Palm Pre or any other smartphone manufacturers for that matter. At this point, I am down to thinking again, what would happen to the cases made for the iPhone nano? Well, rumors have started spreading again that the iPhone nano would be launched this spring or latest by mid 2009. We all have to wait again! With the latest Apple-LG deal some other surprise products could be on Apple’s plan.
