An iPhone application for ornithologists and bird lovers: Chirp! USA in the App Store
I’ve finally got an application on my iPhone that reminds me of the far countryside. All those early morning sounds of birds chirping in the garden and backyard remained in my memories alone until Chirp! USA came along.
What is Chirp! USA?
I am lost either to call this as an entertainment application or a game or utility application. Well, the developer has deployed the application in the Education category.
The application has a list and pictures of about 40 birds that you see in gardens and backyards in the country side. Tap on any of the birds and you hear a chirping sound. This sparks sweet memories. That’s not all, you can test your knowledge about bird sounds.
You have a quiz here. There are three levels of challenge with defined number of birds in each level. When you get into the challenge page, you’ll hear a bird chirping, you have to match the sound with one of the three picture of birds on the screen. This bird quiz may not be that easy if you are not familiar with birds.
The application detects your current location and the list of birds is updated with the ones that are found in your place. Within the application, you can select any of the US states and find out the birds found in that particular state.
Chirp!USA is dedicated to all ornithologists and bird lovers who have iPhones/iPod touches. It’s simple to use with tap to listen and tap to stop concept. The birds can be arranged in alphabetical order or in order of commonness. Wish I can make one of those chirping sounds my ringtone.
Oh yes! You won’t be disappointed with the super simple and clean graphics too. More good news, the developer would be adding more birds to the existing list.
