App Store: The cult of dreamy downloads

It’s recession right? Not for everybody. When people are closing shop, there is one store that keeps growing at a phenomenal rate. Brushing aside the recession fevers, the App Store continues making giant stops towards superstar-dom. In fact it already is a super-star. A cult in itself. Dependent on parts on the smash-hit iPhone, but not entirely. The iPod touch also is jacked into this 1-click shopping heaven.

Let’s start with a few numbers that we all know. 10,000 and counting by the our apps, 500 million downloads, and over      dollars of 1-click business.
And all of that in a time, when we were supposed to be frugal. To be spending less ina recession time.

Why is it such a smash hit? We all know the reason.  Let us just quickly brush through this:

1.    1-click shopping:

The ease and comfort of purchasing at the App Store is just fingertip convenience brought down possibly to its best. And that’s addictive. You just need to have a credit card and an iTunes account. Just click on the item/app you want to buy it. You are only asked for your iTunes account password and it’s yours.

2.    Smooth Installation:
Try installing an application on your PC and your iPhone/iPod touch. The blessings of 1-tap installation are all too evident.
Note: Yes, sometimes you need to synch. But that’s as easy well, just a few more steps may be. But then, having them on your system and iTunes account is just as hassle free. Especially if you are a bulk app-er.

There is donut for everybody. If you want to the world of touch related games, the world of smashing graphics, space cowbows and all that, you have it, right in your pocket. And there is no dearth of choice, especially after roaming around and browsing through the avalance of games –more than 2500 titles to choose from.

Plus, you have everything else, well virtually everything else, - from books to blogs, photography to productivity, travel to weather report, utilities to reference to lifestyle to education to a list of eatery whereabouts, health queries and even very handy Hazmet references. You have a virtual version for everything. No wonder the App Store is giving rise to a bunch of new addicts, the app-o-phobics.

4.    Games:
Apple has changed the face of smartphone gaming. Are we saying anything new? Statistically speaking, the iPhone has made audacious entries into the sacred toms of established and specialized gaming  consoles like Nintendo Ds and Sony Play Station and are now threatening to dethrone the oldish masters.  Now there again, comes the indomitable App Store, with its endless and seemingly non-stop evolution.

5.    Distribution of apps: With the evolution of the App Store in double quick time, the flavor of the applications changed. And now it’s a pretty engrossing task to dive into the depths of the App Store.  that has prompted Apple to step in and organized their store a bit here and there.  So came the organization- first the free vis-à-vis top aps under eacj category, then the sortings by relase date , pricing and popularity, then “Apps of 2008″ page and then the proposed Premium Games section. With its phenomennal growth, the store is stll trying to maintain its democratic nature, though it seems with this organization, they might be heading into a bit of troubled water regarding their promised premises of providing an open source where anybody can rub shoulders with anybody.

The App Store will continue to evolve, from the point of view of the developers who can translate a moment of midnight dream into inspired business in a rare first – a technologically democratic platform. A platform where the little known developer of Trace can leave a mark beside the giant Google Earth. A platform which spawns and inspires a host of other new product and business lines. (Accessories that are dedicated to provide the gaming console like experience, or help the users tug his iPhone just at the right place so that it can record his heartbeats at the time of a jogging and of course the Ad Space, the blogs – all of which are thriving on the culture of app-ing that keeps evolving at the rate of knots in the greatest market of 21st century)

Let the App Store evolve. let the dreamy downloads continue.
