iPhone 3G Indonesia launch on March 23, 2009
The long awaited iPhone 3G would be available in Indonesia starting March 23, 2009 according to 3GWeek. The device would be available exclusively on Telkomsel’s network and would be distributed by four major national distributors.
Telkomsel is the largest network operator in Indonesia and is the first company in Asia that offered GSM prepaid service and is also the country’s first operator to lauch 3G network back in September 2006. Telkomsel has about 67 million subscribers and accounts for more than 50% market share. About 6.2 million subscribers are already using the operator’s 3G network.
The official release is scheduled for March 21 and the launch on 23 March. Industry analysts are of the view that the high price would be the main hindrance for customers to come out on the day of the launch.
The same information source said, the 8GB model would cost more than IDR 10 million, which is equivalent to US $900. On down payment with the initial payment of 2.5 million customers would need to make IDR 75,000 monthly installment for 18 months.
