iPhone OS 3.0 demoed features

Apple’s special media event has brought many new features to the iPhone. iPhone owners around the world now have many reasons to be happy for owning an iPhone come summer when the demoed features of iPhone OS is released.

iphone-os-30Kevin Rose predicted right that OS 3.0 would bring the long awaited cut and paste functionality to the iPhone. But some features, which he said won’t be part of the update (MMS, push, bluetooth) are also on the way now.

The most notable feature from users point of view, however, is the system wide cut and paste functionality. Double tapping a word in text activates the cut copy paste popup, after which users can drag around the copied text to an empty space and double tap to call the paste command popup.

Even the photo application would allow users to copy multiple pictures from their photo folders and paste them to their email content. For undoing the cut and paste, user can simply shake their device.

A new voice memo app would allow users to record and edit audio contents. System wide search of applications, songs, movies, calendar appointment,  emails, contacts, using the Mail, iPod, Calendar and Notes app is also in the upgrade list.

Notes sync via iTunes (finally, productivity mavens rejoice!), shake to shuffle in iPod, auto-logins for WiFi hotspots, stereo Bluetooth, landscape viewing and typing in Mail and other apps, anti-phishing support in MobileSafari, extended Parental Controls, and support for more languages and improved alternate keyboards are some of the other features.

One sad note though, first generation iPhone owners would not be able to get some of the new features due to compatibility issues.
