iPhone tethering comes with iPhone OS 3.0

iphone_tetheringA developer while hacking around the yet to be released iPhone OS 3.0 has found out that the software supports tethering. This means you would be able to share the Internet connection with your laptop. According to the posted screenshots, could be done either via Bluetooth or USB.

Based on what the developer revealed, tethering feature is not there on normal install of the beta OS, but said it got enabled when he was “hacking around.” He said he doesn’t know how it got enabled. He said that there is a status bar display while tethering, the status bar turns purplish blue when on active tethering, which changes to green when on active call and turns red during audio recording.

Earlier there were rumors that NetShare was removed from the App Store because Apple has plans to provide tethering feature in their future OS updates. OS 3.0 seems to be the update we all were waiting for.

Now, the question is; If  tethering really do come with OS 3.0 would AT&T charge a whopping extra money for enabling the feature on top of the heavy data plan that we pay every month?

Earlier we assumed that AT&T might charge between $10 to $30 extra for tethering. Would you enable it if the price were that high?
