Apple beats the recession with remarkable sale of Mac machines, iPhone and iPod
Waiting for quarter earning reports is never fun, especially Apple. The guys out there have the talent to beat around the bush and make you doze off. This time it was a bit different. Nancy just gave a brief introduction and Oppenheimer took over and jumped directly to the report.
Here is the nutshell of the second quarter earning report. A positive report of course was expected though.
Apple’s second quarter sales brought a grand total revenue of $8.16 billion accounting for a net profit of $1.21 billion profit to the company.
Among the products that make Apple revenue boost are the Mac machines, the iPod series and the iPhone. According to the report 11.013 million iPods, 2.2 million Mac machines and 3.793 million iPhone were sold in the second quarter. Other notable sales include iLife and iWork ‘09. In spite of the harsh economic conditions, Apple has managed to bring an unexpected but welcome surprise for investors. With regard to the quarter’s report Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer said:
“We are extremely pleased to report the best non-holiday quarter revenue and earnings in our history. Apple’s financial condition remains very robust, with almost $29 billion in cash and marketable securities on our balance sheet.”
Some of the interesting information revealed during the second quarter earning conference call are:
1. Three percent growth in iPod sales compared to the previous year’s same quarter.
2. Application download from Apple is nearing a billion mark and the total number of applications in the App Store has crossed 35,000
3. The iTunes App Store now host over 35,000 applications
4. About 50% percent of Macs were sold to first time Mac owners
5. Apple is now worth $28.9 billion in cash
6. Apple has till date sold 37 million iPhone and iPod touch units
7. The iPhone is now available in 81 countries

Well, replicating the look and feel of the iPhone and then distributing them cheaper by many smartphone manufacturers has not killed the popularity of the iPhone. The aggressive PC ad campaigns that Microsoft launched to steal the show have not affected the sales of Macintosh machines and Apple products in the least. And finally, the range of iPods from the touch to the Shuffles has helped the company achieve sales stunt. Where is recession for Apple?
