Apple’s new SDK agreement forbids developers to jailbreak or assist in jailbreaking of the iPhone
Developers who have signed up for the iPhone SDK are henceforward forbidden to write applications that can be installed on jailbroken iPhones and are also not allowed to do anything to distort Apple technology by means of messing up with security and DRM. This is part of the new iPhone Developer Program License Agreement being handed out to developers. Here is a quote from the new agreement:
“You will not, through use of the Apple Software, services or otherwise, create any Application or other program that would disable, hack or otherwise interfere with the Security Solution, or any security, digital signing, digital rights management, verification or authentication mechanisms implemented in or by the iPhone operating system software, iPod touch operating system software, this Apple Software, any services or other Apple software or technology, or enable others to do so…”
The SDK agreement implies that all softwares developed using the SDK are solely meant for distribution only through the App Store. For now, Apple could be figuring out how to track who is breaking the agreement.
This new agreement probably is Apple’s first step of taking down the illegal competitors of the App Store, such as the Cydia Store and the Mega Store. The battle with jailbreaking has started finally.
