Apple’s response to Microsoft PC ad campaigns
“Macbook series and Apple products are sexy and cool, but are too expensive.” This is what Microsoft PC advertisements are trying to educate people. Choosing price as the main weapon of attack could be the most effective one at times of recession. Apple has a befitting response to the “Go get a PC” ad campaign.
Arik Hassendahl of BusinessWeek compares the $699 HP notebook recommended by Microsoft and Apple’s $ 2,800 inches Macbook. According to Arik Hassendahl, there are too many strings attached purchasing a PC in terms of extra expenses you incur .
Why is Macbook cooler?
First is the need to protect the PC from Malwares, viruses and worms lurking on the Internet. You’ve to shell out a minimum $50 a year or more to be very sure that your PC is safe. On a Mac machine you don’t really need anti virus at least for now.
Next is the repair charge if something has to go wrong with your machine, which is very much likely. After the expiration of your warranty, you’ll have to pay up a minimum $129 just for diagnosis. Replacement and repair charge are extra. Diagnosis is free in Genius Bar at Apple retail Stores.
To get multimedia tools such as iLife, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, Garageband, etc on a PC, users have to shell out extra hard cash all the way to get something similar to these tools. In the end when you add up all the miscellaneous costs, you realize that a cheaper PC is no cheaper than the cool Macbook. Well, think of the battery backup too. Normal notebook PCs have maximum 3 hours against the 8 hours backup of the 17″ Macbook.
The take away message of the various ads on Microsoft recommended PCs is thus the choice between quality and quantity even at the face value. The Macbook is labelled as cool because of the quality and usability. Even at the smartphone front, Apple is waging the same quality war.

Pfft. This is a poor rebuttal. First of all most people don’t want crappy iLife software. Second the whole Macs don’t get viruses non-sense makes Macs more vulnerable because their users are given a false sense of security. I know for a fact that there are worms targeting the reported seven vulnerabilities in the Mac OS. And finally the Third issue- Apple is terrible with their replacement and broken hardware. They try and screw you for as much money as the next corporation. So all of this is marketing nonsense that an educated consumer will immediately dismiss. Luckily for Apple there are a lot of computer illiterate people.
