AT&T planning to lock you till 2011
After observing flocks and flocks of iPhone fans signing up for the sake of getting an iPhone, AT&T the exclusive official iPhone carrier in US is planning to extend its contract with Apple; the two companies apparently are in talks according to Wall Street Journal.
AT&T’s exclusive deal to carry the iPhone expires in 2010. Keeping away the iPhone from its rivals has been a very successful competition strategy for AT&T since the launch of the iPhone in 2007. At present AT&T has an impressive 77 million wireless customers and also is supporting 30 million consumer phone lines according to Randall Stephenson, the CEO of the company.
AT&T is rumored to be beefing up their networks for the next iPhone launch. As the initial patchy 3G coverage issue has considerably come down after AT&T did batches of network upgrades, I find no problem in staying with AT&T for two more years. Do let us know if you are not satisfied with AT&T, we’ll simply love to know the reasons. In the backstage, jailbreaking and unlocking would continue though.
