Some more handy features discovered in iPhone OS 3.0 beta

iphone-safariAs developers continue to test iPhone OS 3.0 beta, here are some more minor but handy features being unearthed.

In 3.0 you would be able to clear the content of the current page in page in Safari without adding a new page. In the existing version, you can open multiple pages and can close all the pages except one page. In order to close this last page and to clear the content, you need to tap the page display icon, add a new page and then go back to the previous page and close it. It’s rather a long process.

According to developers, 3.0 allows users to close the last page simply tapping on the X icon. This would automatically open up a new page. The processing is still somewhat the same, but for users there is some ease of use there.

There is a new push notification preference pane that would allow users to choose the types of alerts, disable and enable the types of alerts, sounds and badges when notifications are pushed from third party applications to their handsets. This would be handy for users to control draining of the device battery.

Another handy feature is data detection capability on the new Notes application. When users enter data such as email id or phone number in the notes app, the entry would be automatically saved with touch selection enabled.  When you open the application the next time, you can simply tap on the number to either call or add it to their contact, tap on the email address to mail to the person.
