The billion iPhone application download contest winner

app-store-one-billion-downloadThursday 23 April 2009 was a special day for Apple, Bump Technologies and most of all thirteen year old boy Connor Mulcahey from Weston Connecticut.

That was the day Apple reached the one billion iPhone application download mark. Connor Mulcahey is the lucky winner of the download contest. The one billionth application downloaded was Bump, a social networking app from Bump technologies. The application is a free one and I was wondering he knew how to play the download game or was he just lucky? Anyway, a big cheers to Connor.

As promised, Connor would be getting a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule and a Macbook Pro as the lucky winner.

$10,000 iTunes gift card! Any idea how he should use that? And what would  a thirteen year old boy do with a Macbook Pro? We need to give him suggestions.

As long as apple keeps cool applications coming there will never be a slowdown in downloads. With the number of applications being submitted to the app store and the variety of them, it won’t take long before 1 billion becomes 2 and so on. Apple should also be encouraged by the fact that the iphone is gaining ground around the world which means more downloads.
