Yahoo! Messenger finally comes to the iPhone and iPod touch
Good news for those of you who have been waiting for Yahoo! Messenger to come to the iPhone and iPod touch. Yahoo has launched their messenger version for the iPhone and iPod touch. Though all the chat features do not come with this mobile version, you won’t be disappointed with whatever they have to give. Here is a quick look at the Messenger iPhone features.
1. Instant message: Exchange instant messages back and forth with friends. The best deal though is the ability to send emoticons.
2. Sending SMS: You can send SMS from the app to any of your contacts. To do this, you need to tap on the contact details of the selected Yahoo buddy and enter the phone number and the message.
3. Photo sharing: Click your photograph instantly and send it to your friends on the fly. Oh no, you cannot do this from within the messenger interface. You can send any picture in your photo library.
4. Message archive: The Messages folder within the application stores all recent conversations. Tap on any of the contacts and pick up the chat string from there.
5 Idle Status: If your chat session is interrupted because of a phone call, you are kept sign in so that you keep receiving messages provided you come right back to the app in 10 minutes. Your Yahoo state is set at idle during that time.
5. Custom message: You can enter custom message of your choice (even website links) for your friends to see.
6. Additional settings: You can sort your contacts list, show or hide offline contacts, set your status to idle, busy or offline mode all under the Settings icon within the app.
The application is in version 1.0 and I’d say this is a good start. The app was released on March 31, I am wondering how I missed it.
